Ahoy there!
Welcome to my first Cruise Blog. What better ship to start my blog with than the first ship I ever sailed on … Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas®.
I’ve sailed on this ship several times over the years and I’ve never been disappointed. The ‘Indy’ as she is affectionately known, is a firm favourite with cruisers from around the world; and this majestic lady underwent a spectacular multi-million dollar refurbishment in 2018.
Relaxing Staterooms…
The ship boasts a range of spacious staterooms (inside, ocean view, promenade view, balcony and suites) to suit any budget. Cabins really do have everything you need but don’t worry if you forget something, the highly attentive Cabin Stewarts are on-hand 24 hours a day to help.
A range of bars and pubs…
The ship has 17 bars (including Diamond lounge and Pool Bars). All bars are beautifully decorated with different themes. The Promenade on Deck 6, however, really is the heart of the ship with Guest Relations and Shore Excursions, a Champagne Bar (yes, I visited that a lot) and Vintages Wine Bar. It also hosts a range of luxury stores with lots of bargains and duty free prices. Check the Cruise Compass in your cabin for best the deals. You’ll also find the occasional street party on The Promenade too – these are not to be missed!
Food, Glorious Food…
When it comes to Independence of the Seas® you really are surrounded by the very best cuisine. You’ll find 14 restaurants onboard, six of which are included in the price of your Cruise and eight speciality dining restaurants which come with an extra charge.
While the speciality restaurants such as Chops Grille, Chef’s Table and the Japanese themed Izumi are all unique with truly amazing menus, I wouldn’t tend to book these for my entire Cruise. The spectacular main dining room which straddles three decks and the famous Windjammer buffet restaurant, both of which are included in the price of your Cruise, offer a variety of world class dishes to satisfy any pallet. The friendly Food and Beveridge Team really can’t do enough to make you feel welcome and relaxed.
I do love a good hamburger though, so I can’t not mention the fabulous Johnny Rockets®. This 1950s style American Diner serves, burgers, sides, shakes and desserts which are to die for. The Crew Members at Johnny Rockets will be only too happy to stop what they are doing and jump into a line dine when certain songs are played – great fun for all the family. (Supplement $9.95).
Entertainment for all…
There is no shortage of activities and entertainment on Independence of the Seas® from having a showdown in the glow-in-the-dark laser tag centre to having a spin with lady luck in the glittering Casino Royale. There are quizzes, game shows, singing and dancing and, of course, the breathtaking Broadway style shows in the Alhambra Theatre, many of which boast a live orchestra.
My top tip in terms of entertainment would have to be the fantastic Ice Show in Studio B. This really is an ice skating spectacular where you can see ex-Olympic and pro-skaters twirl, jump, slide, swing and dance. The costumes and music are simply fantastic too!
Independence of the Seas really does having something for everyone. If you’d like to learn more about this ship and the great cruise offers we have available, please get in touch with myself or the rest of the team at Thorne Travel.
